OTR-1901 is based on the coulometric sensor method and available for the OTR test of flexible films, sheeting and packages. It can test 3 specimens in one operation with independent results.
Plastic films, aluminum foil, aluminized films, plastic composite films, paper-plastic composite films, coextruded films, aluminum foil composite films and many others.
Plastic, rubber, paper, paper-plastic composite, glass and metal packages, e.g. red wine bottles, blister packs, various plastic bottles, Coke bottles, peanut oil packages, Tetra Pak materials, vacuum bags, metal three-piece cans, cosmetic packages, soft tubes for toothpaste, jelly and yogurt cups.
The specimen is clamped between the upper and lower chambers. The upper chamber is purged with an oxygen stream while the lower chamber is purged with a nitrogen stream. Due to the oxygen concentration gradient, oxygen molecules permeate through the specimen and are carried to a coulometric sensor, which generates a proportional signal from which the oxygen transmission rate and permeability coefficient are calculated.
The package is mounted on the lower chamber with the outside exposed to air or a pure oxygen stream and the inside purged by a nitrogen stream. Oxygen permeates through the package wall, and the penetrated molecules are carried to the coulometric sensor to determine the oxygen transmission rate.
